Can you grow plants with LED Christmas lights?
Im ready LEDs to grow plants, but it is possible to cultivate plants using a much cheaper product as a christmas light vs a LED grow light? What are your thoughts? It makes sense that it would be possible, but other opinions are great too.
It would be possible if they performed two things – intense bright light in the right spectrum for growth, as Christmas lights are not designed for plant growth, it is likely that they will not emit light with the right wavelengths to allow for growth. Plants only make use of certain types of light, and the rest of it is a bit wasted, I'd be worried you may be wasting your electricity to produce light that most people will not use – there is a chance that they could, of course. If the bulbs are replaceable, so maybe you could swap them out to other LED bulbs would be appropriate, so you can save money to buy a complete set? Search around the net for information about LED grow light bulbs, the light spectrum is necessary – it changes in different parts of a plant growth, such as persuasion, flowers, or just the standard growth. I found this kit from search, and it has a little information http://www.homegrownlights.com/diycree.html Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

Think and Grow Rich
$14.85 Estimated to be the bestselling business book of all time, Think and Grow Rich has sold over ten million copies world-wide, and has served as the foundation for all other wealth and prosperity books known today. Based on twenty years of research and the study of over 500 success stories, the book presents the patterns and practices that consistently led to the thrilling success in all 500 cases. Think and Grow Rich is the benchmark standard for today's motivational thought.pAbout the author: As a young special investigator for a national business magazine, Napoleon Hill was sent to interview Andrew Carnegie. During that interview, Carnegie slyly dropped a hint of a certain master power he used; a magic law of the human mind-a little known psychological principle that was amazing in its power. Carnegie suggested to Hill that on that principle he could build the philosophy of all personal success-whether it be measured in terms of Money, Power, Position, Prestige, Influence, or Accumulation of Wealth. |

Stand Straight and Grow Tall
$23.98 Stand Straight and Grow Tall is an inspiring true story about a girl who, having graduated from high school without learning how to read, struggled to find the help she needed. None of her family knew she could not read. When she married, she was able to keep the secret from her husband, for she was ashamed of not being able to read and write. Only after her sons were born, and her inability to read led to a crisis, did she desperately seek help. This book tells of her struggle to find a person able to teach her; it reflects her own pain in her disability as she desperately tries to distinguish sounds and words in the learning process. Her faith in God kept her going. Dory's story will offer hope to those also suffering from learning disabilities. It is a must-read for educators as well as parents. |

The Cutter Incident: How America's First Polio Vaccine Led to the Grow
$12.03 DIVVaccines have saved more lives than any other single medical advance. Yet today only four companies make vaccines, and there is a growing crisis in vaccine availability. Why has this happened? This remarkable book recounts for the first time a devastating episode in 1955 at Cutter Laboratories in Berkeley, California, thathas led many pharmaceutical companies to abandon vaccine manufacture./PDrawing on interviews with public health officials, pharmaceutical company executives, attorneys, Cutter employees, and victims of the vaccine, as well as on previously unavailable archives, Dr. Paul Offit offers a full account of the Cutter disaster. He describes the nation’s relief when the polio vaccine was developed by Jonas Salk in 1955, the production of the vaccine at industrial facilities such as the one operated by Cutter, and the tragedy that occurred when 200,000 people were inadvertently injected with live virulent polio virus: 70,000 became ill, 200 were permanently paralyzed, and 10 died. Dr. Offit also explores how, as a consequence of the tragedy, one jury’s verdict set in motion events that eventually suppressed the production of vaccines already licensed and deterred the development of new vaccines that hold the promise of preventing other fatal diseases./P/DIVDIVP style=MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: nonePAUL OFFIT, M.D., is Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and a professor of pediatrics and Maurice R. How Nations Grow Rich
$52.48 There can be no doubt, writes economist Melvyn Krauss, that the prosperity of the industrial nations since the Second World War has been due largely to global specialization and interdependence. No one country does all tasks today -- products are designed in one country, produced in another and assembled in a third. The increased standard of living resulting from global specialization in turn has led to the growth of the modern welfare state, including an increased demand for economic security and social measures which guarantee politically-determined minimum consumption standards for citizens. Ironically, says Krauss, as the debate over the North American Free Trade Area (NAFTA), the General Agreement of Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the recently established World Trade Organization demonstrate, today's welfare state has evolved into a protectionist state. U.S. consumer advocates (Ralph Nader) see free trade as a threat to consumerist legislation. U.S. environmentalists (Jerry Brown) see free trade as a threat to environmental legislation. U.S. human rights advocates (Anna Quindlin) see free trade as a threat to human rights abroad. In How Nations Grow Rich, Krauss argues there is no inherent reason why the growth of the welfare state in the Western industrial countries should conflict with free trade that is, there is no inherent reason for the welfare state to be protectionist. Exposing fallacious "welfare state" arguments for protection, Krauss makes a powerful case for free trade in general, and NAFTA in particular, as mechanisms for raising U.S. living standards. Americans are made better off through a reallocation of U.S. productive resources from lower-to-higher productivity uses--from textiles to computers, for example. Moreover, by raising wages in Mexico relative to the U.S., Krauss expects NAFTA to help reduce both legal and illegal immigration. Were states like California to reduce their generous social services and affirmative action programs, labor immigration from Mexico would fall to politically acceptable levels. Krauss' novel insight that migration and foreign trade are alternative means of effectuating international exchange is used in this lively and informative book to shed light on a host of important policy issues. By the very act of restricting textile and apparel imports, the U.S. virtually compels foreign textile workers to migrate to the U.S. The European Union's tariff against East European exports provokes a flood of Eastern workers to Western Europe. In How Nations Grow Rich, Krauss dispatches both traditional and newer arguments for protection with unusual verve and clarity. Addressing the belief that protectionism boosts employment, he points out that import restrictions can destroy U.S. jobs when imposed on materials we use as parts. For example, in 1991, Apple and Toshiba suffered a dramatic increase in their production costs as a result of a 63% tariff on imported Japanese flat-... |
